La Colombe d'Or

For my last Artful Destination, I shared La Fondation Maeght. But that was only half of one of my most memorable experiences in the little Provence village of Saint Paul de Vence. Not far is La Colombe d’Or, one of the rare destinations in the world where guests can dine while marveling at a number of original works of art from leading modern masters. Pulling up my chair beneath the violins of Arman, I spent the next two hours in a luxurious bliss as if sharing a glass of wine with the artist himself. La Colombe d’Or, still maintained by the Roux family who opened the terrace café in the 1920′s, also has an adjoined hotel. Imagine staying in the very room Picasso preferred! There are few villages in Provence that can offer such luxury!

Beautiful photos! I was lucky enough to dine at the Colombe d’Or in July. We all felt enchanted, like the place cast a spell over us. Your pictures really capture its bohemian charm.

Happy to hear another guest was as mesmerized as I. Any plans to head back one day? I hope to… It was a highlight of living in the South.

J’adore this restaurant….isn’t it incredible. Many years ago my husband and I sat in the terrace for lunch just in front of the Leger mural….sublime! So lovely that you have reminded me of its magic.

We were seated inside facing an Arman. It made my heart soar! Certainly a must-visit restaurant int he South of France – in the whole of France for that matter!
